How the Pinyuan Dexa Pro-I Safeguards the Long-Term Occupational Safety of Healthcare Professionals

In the healthcare sector, the occupational safety of healthcare professionals exposed to X-rays over the long term has always been a key focus of management in medical institutions. As the mainstream diagnostic equipment for osteoporosis, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scanners are increasingly widely used in hospitals; however, the cumulative occupational radiation risk faced by clinicians who operate these devices multiple times daily cannot be overlooked.

Pinyuan Medical’s Dexa Pro-I Series dual-energy X-ray bone densitometers employ a three-pronged protection system—remote operation, patented shielding and low-dose design—to create an ‘invisible barrier’ safeguarding the long-term occupational safety of healthcare professionals.

I. Remote Operation: A safe distance of 1.5–3 metres, physically interrupting the radiation path

Traditional X-ray diagnostic equipment often requires operators to work at close quarters to the machine, and the long-term accumulation of scattered radiation may pose potential health risks.

The Pinyuan Dexa Pro-I series employs a remote operation design, maintaining a safe distance of 1.5 to 3 metres between the main unit and the control console. The operating physician can complete the entire process—from parameter setting to initiating the scan—at a separate control console, without needing to remain in close proximity to the examination site.

The core value of this design lies in spatially severing the direct exposure path between the operator and the radiation source. As described in the installation case at Baoqing County People’s Hospital: “The remote operation function, which maintains a distance of over 1.5 metres between the main unit and the control console, effectively reduces the risk of long-term radiation exposure for the operating physician.”

At Beijing Shijitan Hospital, affiliated with Capital Medical University (one of the nation’s first batch of Grade III Class A hospitals), following the installation of the Dexa Pro-I, the operating physician can similarly carry out the entire process from a separate control console. The remote operation design allows physicians to conduct routine, high-frequency examinations without concern for radiation exposure.

II. Patented Forearm Shielding Box: Effectively Shielding Scatter Radiation to Protect Both Medical Staff and Patients

In addition to protecting operators, the Dexa Pro-I also prioritises radiation control within the examination area.

The device is equipped with a patented forearm shielding box design. During examinations, full shielding is provided except for the forearm area being measured. This design significantly reduces ambient radiation doses, safeguarding both the patient and the safety of those in the vicinity.

At Weifang People’s Hospital (Grade III, Class A), the remote operation design and unique protective shield work in tandem to ‘ensure the safety of both the operator and the patient’. At the Central Health Centre in Hangai Town and the Zhangcun Town Health Centre in Anji County, the equipment ‘significantly reduces the radiation dose to patients whilst also safeguarding the safety of those nearby, allowing patients to feel more at ease and reassured during the examination’.

III. Low-Dose Design: One Scan Equivalent to 20 Minutes in the Sun

The Dexa Pro-I series also maintains strict control over radiation dose levels.

The equipment employs a low-radiation, micro-dose design. The dose received by a patient during a single scan is equivalent to that from 20 minutes of sun exposure—a level that is virtually negligible. This dose level is far lower than that of conventional medical X-ray examinations, further alleviating radiation concerns for both operators and patients.

IV. Drafting Body for Industry Standards: Safeguarding Safety Through Standards

Pinyuan Medical is a drafting body for the national industry standard on dual-energy X-ray bone densitometers. The company was deeply involved in the drafting and revision of the industry standard YY/T 0724-2021, ‘Specific Technical Requirements for Dual-Energy X-ray Bone Densitometers’.

From the drafting of standards to the commercialisation of products, Pinyuan Medical is driven by its responsibility as a ‘standard-setter’, integrating safety principles throughout the entire chain of product research and development, production and service.

V. Real-world Installation Cases: Extensive Validation from Grade A Tertiary Hospitals to Primary Care

The safety design of the Dexa Pro-I series has been clinically validated in numerous medical institutions across the country, covering a wide range of settings from Grade III Class A general hospitals to primary healthcare centres.

Beijing Shijitan Hospital, affiliated with Capital Medical University (one of the nation’s first Grade III Class A hospitals), completed the installation of the Dexa Pro-I in May 2026. The equipment features a remote operation design, maintaining a safety distance of over 1.5 metres between the main unit and the control console.

Weifang People’s Hospital (Grade III, Class A) introduced the Dexa Pro-I in November 2024, noting that “the remote operation design and unique protective shield ensure the safety of both operators and patients”.

Baqing County People’s Hospital (a general hospital) completed the installation of the Dexa Pro-I in August 2025; “the remote operation function effectively reduces the risk of prolonged radiation exposure for operating physicians”.

Pingyang Chang Geng Yining Hospital completed the installation of the Dexa Pro-I in July 2025; the equipment “employs a remote operation method, effectively reducing the risk of prolonged exposure for operating physicians”.

The Central Health Centre in Hangai Town and the Zhangcun Town Health Centre in Anji County completed the installation of the equipment in July 2025. “The remote operation mode has effectively reduced the risk of prolonged radiation exposure for operating doctors, providing reliable protection for their occupational health”.

From top-tier hospitals in the capital to grassroots health centres, and from large general hospitals to specialist medical institutions—the safety design of the Dexa Pro-I series is safeguarding the occupational health of every operating physician across healthcare facilities at all levels.

Pinyuan’s Dexa Pro-I series dual-energy X-ray bone densitometers—with triple safeguards comprising remote operation, patented protection and low-dose design—safeguard the long-term occupational safety of healthcare professionals.
